Your pet can also easily be infected with intestinal parasites. These parasites are different from heartworms. They usually live in the intestines, and are discovered through routine fecal testing. Some intestinal parasites live in the soil or water outside, some are transmitted from other pets' infected feces, and some can even be from ingesting fleas. Not all pets show symptoms when they have intestinal parasites, so bianual testing is important. Also, some parasites can be transmitted back to you or your family members.
