Dental Care

Your pet should have a dental check up each year with their yearly physical. Occationally, your pet will have to undergo a routine dental proceedure to clean their teeth. We do offer these services here at Munster Animal Hospital. During the proceedure, your pet will be sedated under anesthesia, their teeth will be cleaned of all tartar and plaque build up, and polished to their healthy white color. IV catheters and pain management are also routine with this proceedure.

General Surgery

Along with routine vaccines and physicals, we also provide routine surgery services as well.
These include:
Neutering
Spaying
Front & All Four Declawing
Oral Surgery

We also offer a technique called radiowave surgery.

How does it work?
A radiofrequency electrode tip becomes energized by the radiowaves but does not become hot. The ultra high frequency radiowaves provide specific and delicate tissue interaction. This results in a focused cutting and coagulating effect, which disintegrates and volatilizes single cells minimizing the amount of tissue destruction. Healing is rapid and painless with the formation of a supple tissue identical to surrounding normal tissue.

Benefits:
Decreased post-operative pain
Less blood loss
Reduced risk of infection
Less tissue destruction
Quicker recovery

Therapy Laser

We are pleased and excited to announce that we now offer laser therapy for your pets!

What is Laser Therapy?
Laser therapy is the application of coherent light to treat different ailments.  The laser light consists of high energy light beams at certain wavelengths that can create a healing environment for the cells of the body.

How does it work?
Some wavelengths of laser light can affect cells by inhibiting or stimulating their functions.  The cell reaction depends on the level of laser light applied over time.  The cells then produce ATP that allows for improved blood flow to the area treated and improved healing capabilities.  The photons can also reduce inflammatory mediators PFE2, TNF and IL-6 resulting in pain relief.

Is it painful for my pet?
No!  Laser therapy is painless. A probe is simply applied to the skin of the patient and the laser goes to work penetrating the skin.

What can it be used to treat?

Digital Radiology

Radiographs (x-rays) are extremely helpful for diagnosing and monitoring many medical and surgical conditions. X-rays are useful in examining your pet's bones, lungs, heart, abdomen, oral cavity and other areas. An x-ray can spot a fractured bone, detect cancerous tumors, diagnose heartworm disease and locate an obstruction or foreign body in your pet's stomach. When used in conjunction with other diagnostic procedures like ultrasound, x-rays can accurately diagnose problems, making surgery your pet's surgery less traumatic and complicated.

Digital radiography is a form of x-ray imaging, where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. Advantages include time efficiency through bypassing chemical processing and the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images. Also less radiation can be used to produce an image of similar contrast to conventional radiography.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is like ordinary sound except it has a frequency higher than humans can hear. The sound is reflected off of internal structures. The returning echoes are then received by the transducer and converted by an electronic instrument into an image on a monitor. The images can be printed or recorded. Ultrasound imaging allows doctors to look inside your pet’s body, and thus help observe the structure and function of the heart, locate abdominal tumors, visualize the liver and spleen, or even look inside the bladder.

Endoscope

Endoscopy literally means “inside scope”. In endoscopy procedures, a flexible or rigid tube attached to a light source for illumination is passed into the body. These procedures allow examination of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, small intestines, colon), trachea and bronchi, nose, private areas, and other body spaces often helping to avoid surgery. Tissue biopsies, tissue cultures, and retrieval of foreign objects or tumors are possible with the endoscope. The endoscope can be very useful in certain illnesses affecting your pet.
